چکیده
OF THESIS GLOBAL CHANGE REACTIVE BACKGROUND SUBTRACTION Background subtraction is the technique of segmenting moving foreground objects from stationary or dynamic background scenes. Background subtraction is a critical step in many computer vision applications including video surveillance, tracking, gesture recognition etc. This thesis addresses the challenges associated with the background subtraction systems due to the sudden illumination changes happening in an indoor environment. Most of the existing techniques adapt to gradual illumination changes, but fail to cope with the sudden illumination changes. Here, we introduce a Global change reactive background subtraction to model these changes as a regression function of spatial image coordinates. The regression model is learned from highly probable background regions and the background model is compensated for the illumination changes by the model parameters estimated. Experiments were performed in the indoor environment to show the effectiveness of our approach in modeling the sudden illumination changes by a higher order regression polynomial. The results of non-linear SVM regression were also presented to show the robustness of our regression model.

Extraction of Moving Objects from Video Sequence Using Estimated Background Brightness
This paper proposes a new method to extract the moving objects from the video sequence. The proposed method is robust to the noise and the illumination change effect of the observed image. It is basically the background subtraction with the background image which can be estimated from the global illumination change in the observed image. A mapping table between the present image and the origina...
متن کاملA Robust Background Subtraction and Shadow Detection
This paper presents a novel algorithm for detecting moving objects from a static background scene that contains shading and shadows using color images. Although the background subtraction technique has been used for years in many vision systems as a preprocessing step for object detection and tracking, most of these algorithms are susceptible to both global and local illumination changes such a...
متن کاملA New Strategy for Simultaneous Compensation of Instantaneous Reactive Power and Harmonics of Non-Linear Loads (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper presents a new control method for simultaneous compensation of instantaneous reactive power and current harmonics by parallel active filters (PAFs). Reference compensating currents of PAF are calculated using the subtraction of instantaneous power from its average value. In this way, it is possible omitting high/low pass filter(s) from the control circuit of PAF, which usually result...

2 Background Model Background subtraction algorithm is susceptible to both global and local illumination changes such as shadows, sunlight and reflection. These changes sometimes cause failures of object tracking, gesture recognition and posture estimation. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting objects casting shadows in an indoor scene by modeling a pixel value as the total energy r...
متن کاملCompressed-domain Fall Incident Detection for Intelligent Homecare
This paper presents a compressed-domain fall incident detection scheme for intelligent homecare applications. For object extraction, global motion parameters are estimated to distinguish local object motions from camera motions so as to obtain a rough object mask. We then perform change detection and/or background subtraction on the DC+2AC images extracted from the incoming coded bitstream to r...
